ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) will hear the federal government's appeal against the decision to annul the report of the Sugar Commission on September 2. The Sindh High Court had declared the report of the Sugar Commission null and void.

According to details, the Supreme Court fixed for hearing the appeal of the federal government against the decision of annulling the report of the Sugar Commission.

The chief justice constituted a three-member bench on the appeal of the federal government. A three-member bench headed by the chief justice comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan will hear the case on September 2.

The Sindh High Court had quashed the report of the Sugar Commission. The federal government had approached the Supreme Court against the Sindh High Court's decision.

It was said in the appeal that the Sindh High Court had annulled the report of the Sugar Commission on technical points. The decision of the Sindh High Court has benefited the sugar mafia and the people have been severely affected.

The government had said in the appeal that the sugar mafia was selling sugar at exorbitant prices and was looting with both hands.

It may be recalled that on August 17, the Sindh High Court had declared the Sugar Inquiry Commission and the report null and void and ordered a new independent inquiry.

The High Court had directed the NAB and the FB to conduct an impartial inquiry apart from the previous commission report and to include those with knowledge of the sugar industry in the commission.

The court had said in the order that the FBR should conduct an inquiry in accordance with the tax laws while the FIA ​​should also conduct a fresh inquiry in this regard.

It may be recalled that in the final report of the Sugar Inquiry Commission, Jahangir Tareen, Monis Elahi, Shahbaz Sharif and their families, Omni Group and others were blamed for the Chinese crisis.
